Hockey Day in Ranger Nation
Our team was privileged to take part in the 4th annual Ranger Nation Day. A lot of excitement surrounded the day, and the game at 2PM was just the beginning.
In this exhibition game, the focus was to have a lot of fun. We would play against a Waterloo team, much bigger and stronger than us. the atmosphere was overwhelming, as we had name tags over our room stalls, prize packs and Gatorade to drink. Just like the Big boys of the OHL. Our boys dressed & made themselves ready for the big stage of the Kitchener Auditorium.
With intros onto the ice, each player came onto the blue line. Next was the playing of Oh Canada. Then it was GO time. At first, that was the Waterloo team. They rushed the net, taking charge and getting a 1-0 lead. The big rink seemed a lot bigger, and the Wildcats found themselves behind. Two minutes later, brought the same result. A rush by the Bruins and it was 2-0. The Waterloo team continued to carry the play, making it 3-0 by the end of the first.
The 2nd period would see the tide begin to turn. Hard work by Mac alone would see our fist goal get in at the mid way point. The score would remain 3-1 for the end of the period.
'We can beat these guys!' was what the coaches began to preach. The Wildcats found their legs in the 3rd, getting to & protecting the puck. A smart shot in by Aiden V. gave Mac a rebound to put in, and we had a hockey game! More pressure by our boys produced the first penalty of the game. Continued pressure would see the tying goal get in with only 1:08 left in the game. 3-3 would be the final, in a game the our boys didn't give up & fought their way back into it.
