What is the WMHA initiation program?

This is our introduction to hockey program and is geared toward 3, 4 and 5 year olds.  It is closely based on the Canada Hockey Initiation Program(C.H.I.P.)  Your child will learn the fundamentals through a structured, learn-to-play hockey program designed to introduce them to the game's basic skills. Participants will learn to become contributing members of a team, develop self-confidence, and experience a sense of personal achievement. All of this will be achieved in an atmosphere of fun and fair play.

    Professional instruction and coaching leadership.

WMHA is proud to offer professional instruction led by Tony Code and his staff at WHA(Woolwich Hockey Academy).  Tony is a highly regarded and knowlegeable  hockey instructor and coach with a long pedigree in the sport.  He has played the game at a high level both provincially and at the NCAA level. He runs a very successful hockey school that offers camps throughout the year to elite players and beginners alike.  As a coach he has multiple OMHA all ontario championships, he is very approachable. and is terrific with young kids.

Tony will work directly with coaches on the ice one practice per week to help ensure that proper fundamentals and techniques are being taught to participants.

    Who will coach?

We encourage all interested parents and eligible individuals to consider getting involved as a coach, assistant coach, manager or trainer. You must certified by Hockey Canada including attending specified training sessions and completing a police check.

    How often do we play?

The initiation program runs twice a week from mid September to mid March.  Ice times are Saturday morning, as well as an additional time through the week TBD.

My child has never skated, is this program right for him/her?

Yes.  It is a beginner’s program and as such we welcome children of all skill levels.  We will attempt to stream our participants so that children are placed in groups with others of similar skill.

    What is the cost?

The cost is among the most reasonable in the region and is set at $335 per player ($410 after May 31st).

    Does this include equipment?

No.  You will have to provide your own full equipment before your first session.  Information on what is required is available at the following link: http://www.omha.net/page/show/2796144-equipment. Note that players and goalie require a mouthguard, and goalies also require a dangler.
