With the move to a new Local League (WCWLL) this year we are happy to be adding a new Select tier of hockey that can provide an opportunity to further develop our house league level players. At this time we would like to provide a little more information on how how the Select teams will work.
How many teams are there?
Each LL tier starting at Atom will have 1 Select team made up of major and minor players.
Who can tryout?
Anyone rostered as a house league player can try out for Select.
What is the structure of a Select league?
There is no Select league per se, all players chosen to the team will still play with their house league team including regular season, tournaments, and playoffs. The Select team will be provided 3 extra ice times per month in which the coaching staff can use as either practices or games. Games with other Select teams around the region will be scheduled by the team manager simply by reaching out to the opposing teams (we will provide list of available Select Teams found near to our region). However, to experience structured competition, the Select teams will also be eligible for Select Tournaments. It would be expected that a Select team would play 2 to 3 Select tournaments a year in addition to the house league tournaments they would be playing as well.
When are tryouts?
We expect Select team tryouts to commence soon after LL evaluation and team selection. We are aiming for last week of September.
Is there an additional cost?
Yes, like the rep tier there will be a cost to a player that makes the Select team. At this time we do not have an exact amount but its expected to be lower than rep fees. We will be able to communicate the fee by the time we have LL evaluations. There will also be additional costs to cover the tournaments.
