2019-2020 Novice Update
Submitted By Mike Birmingham on Monday, August 12, 2019
The 2019-2020 season will see the implementation of the new half ice program for Novice age players.  The seasonal framework will consist of a development stage, regular season, and transition season.  ALL PLAYERS are asked to attend the first 4 pre-season ice times (dates and times to be announced).  Following that in mid September rep tryouts for the Novice A team will be held (purchase of a try out pass is required) and following that the evaluations for local league team splits.  All Novice streams will follow the same seasonal framework.

Development Stage (September - Mid October)
  • Preseason skates, try outs/evaluations and skill development practices

Regular Season (mid October to January 14)
  • Skill development practices with primary focus on individual technical skills
  • 12-18 games based on Tri-County or Local League pod
  • Games are 4 on 4 with goalie half ice (typically 2 going on at the same time on each half)
  • Official on ice but no icing or off sides
  • Two 20-22 minute periods with face off at the beginning of each period
  • Teams can participate in Jamborees during this time

Transition Season (Jan 15 - end of March)
  • Skill development practices with primary focus on individual technical skills
  • 8 game schedule based on Tri-County or Local League pod
  • Games are regular 5 on 5 with goalie full ice
  • Officials on ice with all rules being enforced including off sides, icing, and penalties
  • Teams can participate in Tournaments during this time
There are no play downs at the Novice level.
