The U13BB team submitted
the winning video entry in the inaugural Hockey For All
challenge!
Their video featured the
boys sharing their thoughts about what hockey
for all meant to them. They
shared that race, gender, religion or financial means
shouldn’t matter and that
everyone that wants to play hockey should be able to
play Canada’s game.
As winners of the Hockey
for All Challenge, the U13BB received $250 for a team
party and $100 towards a
charity of their choice that promotes diversity and
inclusivity in hockey. The
U13BB chose a local charity, Friends of Hockey (FOH).
FOH is a private organization, founded in 2009,
that funds all or part of a child's
hockey costs from
equipment to registration. Each year FOH provides thousands of
dollars in registration
fees for kids to play hockey. FOH believes that every child in
Woolwich has the right to
lace up and play hockey, and it’s clear that the U13BB
boys share this same
belief and so they decided to donate all of their prize winnings
to FOH.
Members of the U13BB team
presented Kyle Rank, founder of FOH, with a cheque
for
$350 on March 23 at the Woolwich Memorial Arena.
