Atom LL#1 Stands Tall in Battle of Woolwich
Wildcats tie LL#3 guaranteeing them a spot in the championship final.

The Wildcats were up against their Woolwich LL#3 nemesis at St Jacobs arena on Saturday morning. Our LL#1 team would clinch a spot in the championship final with a tie or a win, and the LL#3 cats had been climbing in the playoff standings and had a number of games in hand. LL#3 hadn't solved the LL#1 team in any games so far this year, so they were hungry for a win.

The LL#1 cats found themselves down 1 goal within the first couple of minutes, and were fighting an uphill battle after LL#3 tapped in a second goal to go up 2-0 early in the second period. Emmet Schell would make a stand half way through the 2nd with an end to end rush that was capped off with a goal high on the short side to bring us within 1. The score would stay that way until 5 minutes left in the 3rd when Zion Shadd would finally break free of the double and triple coverage he had been fighting all game, and tucked a well placed shot past the LL#3 goalie high on the glove side.

The last 5 minutes were nerve racking, as the teams would trade chances in end to end action. The crowd was on the edge of their seat, and nervously chewed through all of the popcorn they had purchased from the Snack Bar that was opened for the first time in many years. We have witnessed many Woolwich vs Woolwich games in this barn in recent years, but the crowd has never been as excited and loud as it was on this day.

The final seconds disappeared from the scoreboard and the two teams would leave the ice in a 2-2 tie. This was the most intense game both teams have been involved in this season, and it looks like there is a very good chance that LL#1 will meet LL#3 in the championship final. Parents from both teams are already lobbying for additional items to be made available in the snack bar to help their nerves for the next head to head competition...

Scoring:
Goals were scored by Emmet Schell and Zion Shadd (Both unassisted).

Golden Jersey:
Emmet Schell was an offensive and defensive machine this morning. Emmet made smart choices when deciding to take the puck and rush with it, and also made some incredible defensive plays preventing LL#3 from breaking through and getting a clear shot at our goal. Emmet was a unanimous choice for the jersey today.

We will watch and see how the last few games of the round robin play out, but we know that we have clinched a spot, and there will be a championship final played in Woolwich this year. Go Wildcats!!!
