Atom LL#1 Pulls Out a Win in Hespler Nail Biter
Wildcats win 4-3 against Hespler #3

Coming off a 5-1 loss to Beverly #1, our own LL#1 Wildcats were eager to get back into the win column. The task would prove difficult as the team was put back on their heels with an early breakaway goal by the Hespler centre off the opening face off. The Cats settled down and started getting back into their groove late in the first when Cooper Jones would tuck in his 2nd of the year through the Hespler goalie's 5-hole. Zion Shadd would put us up early in the second, and we would trade goals with the Shamrocks to finish the period up 3-2.

Evan Reger and Jonah Schmidt combined on the 3rd goal in the second. Reger was welcomed back in the lineup after being on the IR for a few weeks and he made his presence known with his trademark 2-way play. In a post-game interview Reger commented that the knee felt great and he was looking forward to Tuesday's practice to finish clearing the cobwebs.

Hespler scored early in the 3rd to tie the game up, but Zion Shadd was ready to respond as Bryden Schaefer and Caleb Antonello created space for Zion to put home his second of the game with 6 minutes left. Hespler put pressure on Woolwich late, but the Cats would get some help from a strong defensive core (the trio of Emmet Schell, Austin Thompson, and Carson Zinger) and some key saves late from their goaltender Kelan English to carry the lead to the dressing room.

Congrats on another big Win LL#1 !!

Scoring:
Goals: Cooper Jones, Zion Shadd (2), Jonah Schmidt
Assists: Evan Reger (2), Zion Shadd

Golden Jersey:
Though we won the game, we struggled a bit with our passing which caused a lot of turn overs. As a result we spent a lot of time chasing Hespler back into our end. Carson Zinger had a particularly strong game and we started to see his aggressive side shine through. He thwarted a potential 2 on 0 at a critical point late in the third by challenging a speedy Hespler forward trying to break in on our goal, and Carson was also showcasing his hard wrist shot from the point with several attempts going just wide of the Cambridge net. Keep up the great work Carson!
