Tyke Select - Tryout Details
Hello Parents and Players.

Welcome to the Tyke Select 2016-17 season.

Hello Parents and Players.

Welcome to the Tyke Select 2016-17 season.

My name is Rob Hall and I will be the head coach for this year’s REP hockey team.

I am very excited to be selected as the head coach for this hockey team and am totally geared up and ready to get our season underway.

I’ve been coaching in the Woolwich Minor Hockey system now for 3 years and enjoy every part of coaching along with the development aspects of our youth hockey players in the game that I’ve embraced for many years.

My philosophy is simple and here are key components that I will watch for when selecting this year’s team:

1. Players with that passion and focus for the game (skills, hockey sense and knowledge).
2. Players that respect all aspects of the game (coaches, teammates, opponents and officials).
3. A positive attitude (this is BIG for me!)
4. That desire to learn… coupled with a work ethic that reflects just that.
5. That commitment to TEAM. Hockey is a team sport, we will win and loss games as a TEAM and will never give up. The game is not over until the final buzzer rings. My slogan for the team this year -- #neverletup

There are 5 scheduled tryouts this year:
1. Tues. Sept 6th from 4:30 – 5:30pm (Snyder ice pad)
2. Fri. Sept 9th from 5:30 – 6:30pm (Snyder ice pad)
3. Sun. Sept 11th from 11:30am – 12:30pm (Snyder ice pad)
4. Tues. Sept 13th from 4:30 – 5:30pm (Snyder ice pad)
5. FINAL TRYOUT – Thurs. Sept 15th from 5:30-6:30pm (McLeod ice pad)

Note: Scheduled times could change, please reference the website http://woolwichminorhockey.ca/Tryouts/ for any possible changes.

Tryout Process and Format:
ALL players trying out for the team must check in at the registration table that will be set up in the lobby of the Woolwich Memorial Complex.
Players once signed in will be assigned a jersey with number. This jersey will be worn by the player throughout the tryout process.
Jerseys must be handed in at the end of each tryout practise.
You are required to sign in EACH tryout date and time that is scheduled to receive your jersey.

Jamie Israel will be running the first 3 tryout sessions again this year and providing feedback to myself with regards to player selections. Jamie is a professionally trained hockey instructor and personal trainer. His evaluations and suggested player selections will be provided to me in a confidential manner throughout the course of those first 3 tryout sessions.

Team Selection Process:
Player selections will be made via the WMHA website and results will be found on the SECURE TRYOUT page. This is a secure page that will require a password to gain access. A handout complete with the password will be provided to each parent / player at the registration table when you arrive for registration and jersey assignment.

Player cuts will be made after the 2nd tryout and results will be posted to the website SECURE TRYOUT page as indicated above.

Players selected to continue in the tryouts will be posted by FIRST NAME and LAST INITIAL.
As an example – John S. (your name found on the site indicates you are to RETURN to the next tryout).

The team will consist of 15 positions (13 skaters and 2 goalies). All players will need to earn their position on the team, but everyone will be invited to attend the first 2 tryouts schedule before team selections will start. As we all understand, the tryout period is relatively short which makes selecting a roster a challenging activity. There may be capable players that do NOT make the team simply based on the number of rostered players allowed for selection. Updates to the secure site will be done as quickly as possible following the second tryout and for the 3 remaining times after that.

For players that are not listed to continue with the Tyke select tryout, you will be asked to proceed onto the Novice LL (local league) schedule found by following this link – http://woolwichminorhockey.ca/Teams/1404/Calendar/

In closing, I want to thank all parents and players for their hard work, dedication and participation during the Tyke Select tryout process this year. No matter what the outcome is from this year’s selection process I want everyone to understand that the journey in hockey will always have its “ups and downs”.
Managing through these periods is what moulds a player going forward and taking positive points away from less than expected outcomes is a part of the development process in the game of hockey.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule a follow up meeting with me, please contact me via the email address provided – [email protected]

Good luck to everyone this hockey season – have fun, work hard and never let up (#neverletup).

Rob Hall.
