Appreciation for our Sponsor Waters & Hastings
On Saturday November 29th the Woolwich Wildcats Major Novice A team made a visit to Chartwell Elmira Retirement Residence to show our appreciation for our sponsor Waters & Hastings. The boys served coffee, tea and donuts to the residents but most importantly they got to spend some quality time with the wonderful folks who live at Chartwell.  The remainder of this article was written by Carol Schwartz (Pacey's Mom) who describes exactly what our visit to Chartwell was all about.

Yesterday’s Youth

It’s not just a visit. Our boys are meeting versions of themselves (or their sisters) from years past.

In showing gratitude to our team sponsor, Waters & Hastings, our team chose to visit with a group that may not enjoy the same daily connectedness with their community. Our sons are blessed to be healthy and energetic enough to play the fast, physical game of hockey. They have 14 teammates and 4 coaches to play with, share with, laugh with, learn from, challenge, etc. while our ‘yesterday youth’ may have precious few connections left, or perhaps they are not able to freely move about to the hubs of activity like the arena, or parks.

Waters & Hastings is kind enough to allow our team to share a hockey seasons’ worth of valuable memories without the burden of expense. Visiting Chartwell is our chance to share that benefit through excitement, team spirit, and determination. Maybe it’s a good game of cards, a belly laugh over a funny joke, a play by play of a goal once scored or a championship lost.

And maybe our boys find out that today’s youth and yesterday’s youth really are one in the same, and that we all share similar stories. The support we need throughout our lives will change – team sponsorship now, companionship and a sense of belonging later.
